Came here mainly for the vibes and the iconic sword-fighting scene from Kill Bill—and it definitely delivers on atmosphere. The setting is super cool, with photo ops all around and top-notch service. It’s a fun spot to hang out, grab some drinks, and soak in the cinematic history. That said, the food didn’t quite live up to the hype. Presentation and flavor could use some improvement—not trying to knock the chefs, but it just wasn’t as memorable as everything else. Overall, this place is all about the ambiance and experience. If you’re a fan of the movie or just want a unique spot to chill, it’s worth a visit. Just manage your expectations when it comes to the food.

We came mainly for the movie which I am a huge fan of, amazing vibes, service is good even tho waiters are extremely busy at times making it impossible for them to pay attention to you. Now, the food: extremely disappointing. The menu choice is weird, the lack of main full dishes is weird, almost forcing you to get several little and somewhat overpriced not so good side dishes. Don't get me wrong, the food wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either and most importantly it didn't feel Japanese, I got the beef noodles and the sauce tasted like the french sauce I'd eat at home in Paris. Also the kitchen, composed of a team of at least 9 people, had 0 japanese cooks.

5-Star Review for Gonpachi Nishiazabu – A Must-Visit Tokyo Icon Dining at Gonpachi Nishiazabu was an unforgettable experience that more than lives up to its legendary reputation. Known globally as the inspiration for the famous fight scene in Kill Bill, this restaurant is so much more than a movie backdrop — it’s a place where fantastic food, incredible atmosphere, and top-notch service come together perfectly. From the moment we walked in, we were struck by the warm, lively vibe. The architecture and decor transport you to another era, with its wooden beams, lanterns, and open kitchen creating an authentic, energetic setting. We ordered a variety of dishes, and every single one was a hit. The grilled eel was tender and flavorful, the mackerel had just the right balance of smoky and savory, and the shrimp tempura was light, crisp, and perfectly fried. The fried chicken was juicy on the inside with an irresistible crunchy coating. The veggie sushi was fresh and beautifully presented, and the freshly made soba noodles had an incredible texture and taste that you can only get when it’s handmade on-site. To top it off, we enjoyed cocktails and beer that paired wonderfully with the food. The drinks menu is just as thoughtfully crafted as the food, with something for everyone. The service was friendly, efficient, and attentive without ever feeling rushed — impressive given how busy this spot can get. If you’re visiting Tokyo, Gonpachi Nishiazabu is more than just a place to eat — it’s an experience. Amazing food, iconic setting, and a vibe that makes you want to stay all night.

Famous spot with a lively, stylish atmosphere—great for groups or visitors. Nice variety on the menu, from sushi to grilled items, and everything was well-executed. Not mind-blowing, but overall on par and satisfying. Worth a visit for the vibe and experience.

In short: This is the type of restaurant you can find outside of Japan. So if you’re in Tokyo and looking for real Japanese experience find another place to go. I’ll be specific w my comments: Well, if you can’t do tempura and fries right what can I say about the rest. The positives: The quality of meat is great. The chicken was a bit tasteless but the quality was good. The service staff are super nice. Our server forgot to bring condiments as we requested but it’s forgiven as it was a Friday night. Negatives: They couldn’t get the basics right. I sent back the fries and explained how hard it was. They send another one but this time super soft. Hahah. The shrimp tempura was terrible. The batter was not done in the right temperature. The constant screaming across the restaurant gets a bit old but this is part of their brand so don’t come here if you like to have conversation with your friends, it’s a loud environment. Especially if you’re sitting near the steps as they seat people. Overall, for the price you pay, you can definitely get a better value elsewhere in Tokyo. By the way this restaurant was recommended by our hotel and I think they send all tourists here as I saw 90 percent tourists.
