The hotel is a beautiful historic site. The location provides easy access to many tourist destinations in the old section of Avignon. The common areas are spacious and attractive. The service staff are not particularly helpful. We were excited to discover our room after seeing a beautiful photo of a room online. Our assigned room was in the “modern” section of the hotel. The room interior was drab and unappealing…it reminded us of a college dorm room. Several maintenance issues in our room including peeling ceiling paint, a loose door threshold, and a cracked wall holder for the shower wand. HVAC was OK but not great. The experience in total was significantly below what we would expect of a 4 star accommodation. Suggest that you book elsewhere when in Avignon.

The setting of the hotel is superb – peaceful, full of history, and with incredible potential! The staff are very friendly and helpful, which makes the stay all the more pleasant. However, the rooms, while clean, feel quite outdated and are in serious need of renovation. The comfort and amenities fall short of expectations, especially given the charm of the surroundings. Important note: if you're taller than 6'1" (1.85m), expect difficulties getting into the shower or even using the toilet, as the spaces are extremely cramped. This hotel could truly be outstanding. For now, it’s just about adequate – which is unfortunate, especially since even the staff seem aware of the issues.

I want to give this 5 stars but I just cannot. Although beautiful building it needs help and issues with lighting throughout building and rooms. Also this is not easy to navigate and must climb steps in new section. Also some rooms have only tubs so difficult for elders. I will say the breakfast is amazing! Machines that squeeze out from.fresh oranges. The food is superb and location is great! You can literally walk to anything.

If you are English stay well away from this hotel! Front desk staff are rude, aggressive and unapologetic. One member told me to 'shut up or else!'. The manager was present and casually said he would deal with it. All I asked was an explanation why I couldn't take my bicycle to my room. I also spoke to another English guest who said the same member of staff on the front desk refused to accept they had 2 rooms booked despite evidence of the booking. That too ended in an argument and a comment was made to them about the English should speak French if they are visiting France. Disgusting behaviour. Stay well away from this run down hotel. The reception manager is to blame for allowing this behaviour.

Reception staff are rude and unhelpful. The English are not welcome. My advice to anyone English looking at this hotel would be to find somewhere else! The hotel is dated and tired and feels like you're staying in a WWII hospital. I complained to the main reception desk and was told to find a 5 star hotel 'we are only a 4 star'. I was absolutely shocked!
